Frankincense is known to have many healing properties. The magical resin that grows on small trees called the Boswellia Tree are of the botanical family Burseraceae. Their natural growing range is limited and most of the Frankincense traded worldwide is exported from Southern Arabia (Oman & Yemen) and North East Africa (Somalia). Frankincense is collected by tapping into the bark of the tree with an axe. The milky sap that exudes hardens on exposure to air into tear shaped droplets, which is then easily picked by the collector about two weeks later. The tapping's continue on the same tree in the same place up to 4-5 times, thus resulting on the grades. The tappings usually takes place between June to August known as the 'Khareef' season. The time taken between each cutting interval and each tree and time of year, the Frankincense varies according to the species and the customs in the area. The only process undertaken after collection is grading of the resin, usually done by a local merchant. This is why frankincense is 100% organic and natural as no chemicls are used to assist it grow or preserve.
